VE Day Celebrations Bring Music and Memories

We’ve had such a brilliant time here at the home celebrating VE Day with our residents and their families. From start to finish, it was a week packed full of fun, memories and a few emotional moments too, as many of our residents still remember that day 80 years ago. The week kicked off with a bit of dressing up and a photo shoot, with curlers, scarves and big smiles all round. Some of our staff even joined in, which gave everyone a good laugh. It was lovely to see everyone getting involved and really enjoying the chance to look the part and share stories from years gone by.

We followed that up with a proper afternoon tea party, complete with scones, cakes, and a nice cup of tea – all served on Union Jack plates to mark the occasion. The decorations were up, and the place looked great, full of colour and celebration. Everyone was in great spirits, and it was lovely to see families sitting down with their loved ones and enjoying a bit of time together. We also held a VE Day quiz, which got quite competitive in the best way! Plenty of head scratching and laughter as we tested everyone's knowledge of wartime Britain. It brought back a lot of memories and sparked some really lovely chats between the residents.

The highlight of the week was definitely the garden party. We were lucky with the weather, and it was just the perfect setting for live music and a bit of dancing. The musicians were fantastic and had everyone clapping along – a few of our residents were even up dancing, which was lovely to see. The banjo and guitar music gave it such a lively feel, and there were plenty of toe-tapping moments. It was a wonderful way to mark such an important anniversary, and it really brought everyone together. We’re so proud of our residents and grateful to the families and staff who made the week so special.
Come and see the difference for yourself – if you’re looking for a care home where there’s always something to smile about, we’d love to welcome you in for a visit.
